The Process
-
We start with an initial welcome/intake phone consultation. During this initial phone call, we learn more about you, give a brief overview of what it looks like to hire a LGDC birth team, and answer any questions you have. Based on your due date and preferences we match you will a doula duo and send you their bios for review
-
Next, you will meet your birth team on Zoom! Little Gifts uses the partnership model which means you have the same two doulas supporting you throughout your pregnancy (no backups you've never met at your birth). During our time together you will get to know us on a personal level, and we get to know you as well. Our Zoom consultations usually last around 30-45 minutes, but there's not an end time scheduled- so take all the time you need! We offer to hold your spot on our due date calendar for one week after your consult until you secure your spot via payment. After one week, your due date will be released to the next family in line (if applicable)
-
Once you decide to hire your LGDC birth team, you will receive your proposal that includes our contract and invoice. Typically, clients pay the birth fee in full with the signing of the contract, but we are also happy to break it up into two payments (or more). After the contract is signed and the invoice is paid, we are officially your doulas!
-
Your doula team goes on call immediately after we send our onboarding email after hiring us. We're accessible by phone call or text whenever you need us throughout your pregnancy. And if your sweet baby decides to come early, one of your doulas will be there for you. Our labor on-call schedule goes from 37-41 weeks however, we know if baby arrives early, you need your doula and we will be there. You can reach out to your doulas about anything at anytime - we're your birth besties!
-
Included in our birth doula service are at least 1 in-home prep sessions - your Birth Prep & Postpartum Prep. These are scheduled around 28 weeks, and we like to complete them no later than 34 weeks.
-
It's baby time! The doula on call will join you during labor whenever you're ready. This is typically when active labor begins, but it's different for everyone. Since we know your wants and wishes beforehand, we go to work supporting you in all the ways you need, when you need it. After delivery and everything settles down, we get you all tucked in making sure you have everything you need before we leave.
-
The doula who supported you during your birth will be the one to visit you after you're discharged. We like to complete this follow-up visit within the first two weeks after baby arrives. While your doula team isn't on call after your birth, we are accessible and available! It's not uncommon for us to have birth clients call or text us during the fresh postpartum phase more than they did during pregnancy, and we love it! The relationship doesn't end after your birth. Once we're your doulas, we're always your doulas.

Frequently Answered Questions
Why hire a birth doula?
While the dream of meeting your baby may seem crystal clear, getting to that point might not be as straightforward. It starts to feel overwhelming when you begin thinking how you're going to get through it! For many parents, it’s around this time of uncertainty when parents start looking for doula support to add to their birth team. For us, it’s not about how you have your baby. It’s more about how you feel when you have your baby. Were you heard? Were you respected? Were you cared for? Did you feel strong? One sure thing- on the day you give birth to your baby, you will be the strongest you’ve ever been regardless of how it happens. As your doulas, we are committed to helping you create a space where these feelings unfold.
What hospitals do you serve?
Tampa General Hospital, BayCare Hospital,
When should I hire a doula?
The sooner, the better! We book up very quickly, so it's never too early with us.
What happens if I go into labour early?
We are available for your birth at the moment you sign up, not just from 37 to 42weeks. If the baby decides to make an early appearance, we will be there for you
Do you accept Carrot or Maven benefits?
Yes, we do accept Carrot Fertility, Inc. Our birth and postpartum doulas meet the requirements set by Carrot, and they have successfully received reimbursement in past Carrot agreements.
What services do you provide before the baby is born?
Plenty can done prior to childbirth, including: pregnancy and childbirth education, addressing questions and concerns, labor and birth options, birth plan guidance, baby registry assistance, high-risk pregnancy information, creating your birth environment, induction options, cesarean section planning, nursery staging and more.
When should I hire a doula? If I have a C-section, could I still get support from a birth doula?
Yes. Even in a surgical setting, your chosen doula is there to explain what is happening, guide you though the procedure, and even create personalized birth plan. Many women find that the meditations or help getting into a good headspace offered by a doula beforehand is essential to a peaceful, gentle c-section experience. Your doula will also there during recovery to help with the first breastfeeding and bonding. There’s a possibility your doula may accompany you into the operating room, unless it is an extreme emergency requiring general anesthesia. Whether a c-section is plan A or plan Z, your doula can help validate and support this story for your baby’s birth.
How does your doula pairing service work?
Our doula pairing service is designed to match you with the perfect doula based on your preferences, history, and needs. We carefully select two doulas we believe are ideal matches for you and provide their bios for you to review. Absolutely! We encourage you to read the bios of the doulas we've selected for you on our website. This will give you a better understanding of their backgrounds, experiences, and approaches to doula care. You can also receive a private consult with your chosen doula for you to make that final decision.
